From there it has risen to figures like sales of $ 11.2 billion in 1997.

Weyerhaeuser is the world's largest private owner of merchantable softwood timber & the world's largest producer of softwood lumber & market pulp. The company has been managing forestlands since 1900 & currently supports the largest private silvicultural & environmental research staff in the world. It also owns & operates eight seedling nurseries & 17 tree farms.

In the western U.S., Weyerhaeuser harvests about two percent of its forests each year. The reforested site will be ready for harvest again in 40 to 50 years. In the southern U.S., Weyerhaeuser harvests about three percent of its forests each year. Here loblolly pine matures earlier than such western forest species as Douglas-fir, noble fir & western hemlock. As a result, the forest growth period is shorter-about 35 to 40 years. Forestlands are generally replanted within one year of harvest.
