PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
The Double Case Flow Meter consists of a measuring chamber which is bolted inside an outer casing. The measuring chamber consists of a Flow Meter body, rotor with vane blades & two internal covers. Fixed to the outer casing is a manifold, an outer end cover, & a Calibrating Mechanism (or a Pulse Transmitter depending upon the requirement of a electronic readout). The rotor spindle transmits the drive through a pressure tight seal in the outer cover to the calibrating mechanism (or Pulse Transmitter), which calibrates the meter output for a corrected counter readout. All mechanical Flow Meters are fitted with Veeder Root mechanical counters.
The product enters the Flow Meter measuring chamber through the manifold inlet & at the same time fills up the space between the outer casing & the measuring chamber. This effectively 'pressure balances' the measuring chamber & prevents distortion due to line pressure
fluctuations to ensure a high metering accuracy. The separate manifold design further enhances performance & accuracy by preventing distortion due to pipe line stresses. The liquid on entering the measuring chamber causes the rotor to revolve by exerting pressure on the vane blades. The proximity of the rotor to the body forms an efficient seal while the profile of the body ensures that the vane blades are guided through the measuring crescent.
The vane blades divide the liquid into segments & each revolution of the rotor displaces four such segments. The rotor spindle transmits the drive through a Calibrating Mechanism or Pulse Transmitter. The measuring chamber, for ease of servicing, can easily be removed from the outer casing by only removing the front cover.
